My favourite things about autumn

I never know how to answer the question “What’s your favourite season?” because there’s something I love about all seasons. I’d say autumn is near the top of the list, but with only 4 seasons to pick from, that doesn’t really mean much. Instead, I like to think about what I like about each season, and in this Blogtober day 2 post, I’m doing exactly that.

My birthday falls in this season

I’m a November girl, a Scorpio, a Sunday-born child. And in autumn I celebrate my birthday. I never just stick to doing something on the one day though (my actual birthday), my celebrations tend to last a few days. I even book a week off work these days.

My woolly hats

Quite simply, I can start wearing my woolly hats again.

Comfort food

Autumn recipes and dishes are all about comfort food. The food magazines promote stews, slow cooked dishes, and sweet treats such as Parkin and bonfire toffee. Somehow it’s comforting. It’s also a complete change from the salads that we’ve had over the summer months, and gives us new ideas to work with when meal planning.

Chocolate apples

I absolutely love the chocolate apples you find in the supermarkets in the weeks around Bonfire Night. You can only buy them this time of year, which is a shame, because they are a sweet fix that you could class as one of your 5-a-day.

We celebrate Wesley’s Gotcha Day

Wesley is our 6 year old rescue Westie (well, we think he’s 6). We fostered him for two weeks in 2016 and couldn’t let him go, so we adopted him. He’s a proper character and a huge part of the family. It’s a time to reflect how much he’s grown and learned to trust us, and how lucky we are to have the privilege of knowing him.

TV Dramas

There’s usually a few good TV dramas on over the autumn. A good opportunity to cozy up in front of the tv and use distraction as a pain relief.

Look out for my Blogtober day 3 post tomorrow where I reveal my favourite slow cooker recipe.

I’m a November baby too also born on a Sunday and it snowed when I was born. I really like the Autumn. I love the changing colours all around us in nature and the fashion too. In fact I’ve just spent too much money on some new pinafore dresses (three eek) and a pair of boots to see me through the season. I also take a few days off for my birthday – a nice break before the business of the festive period.

Oh wow – we have a lot in common! I remember having snow on my birthday when I was a kid – not very autumny ?. Good for you for treating yourself to some new outfits. It’s got to be done x
