This post is to let you know that my blog now has a privacy policy to comply with the changes under General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It comes in to effect from 25 May 2018.

Privacy Policy

Who I am

My website is http://notebooksandglasses.com.

As the owner and author of this website and blog, I take your privacy seriously and want to make sure I am compliant with any rules and regulations (including GDPR) relating to how I use and store your data.

What personal data I collect, why I collect it, and how long it is stored for

Blog post comments

If you comment on a blog post then your details collected in the comment form (name, Gravatar, email address, website URL) will be stored on my site, along with your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you have left comments, you can request we erase any personal data we hold about you.

Under GDPR, leaving a comment is considered a definite intention, giving me consent to store this information. At the moment I am not using this information to contact you, but may do so in the future.

If for whatever reason you do not consent to the above, please do not leave a comment on any of my blog posts.

Email subscribers

Once signed up as a subscriber to my blog, I only send notifications when a new post is published (or an apology one gets published in error). I do not currently have a newsletter. Your data will never ever be sold or shared with any third parties under any circumstances.

I want to get your clear consent before collecting any data. My email provider uses a double opt-in system which gives you the option of subscribing and then further confirming that you want to hear from me . If you don’t confirm this, then you will not be subscribed. I will continue to store your data until you unsubscribe (using the link at the bottom of the post notification email). Your data will be deleted from our site once you inform us that you no longer want it to be stored.

Contact form

If you contact me by using the contact form on my Contacts page, the data collected will be your name, email address, subject, and details of the message. I will not use this data for marketing purposes.

This information will be kept for up to 12 months but you may request that these details are deleted at any time.

cookies

If you leave a comment on my site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

I have a pop-up cookie policy on my pages and posts which you can accept or read more about.

Google Analytics

I use Google Analytics on my website. Google Analytics stores cookies on your devices to keep track of usage data.

For analytics purpose, Google may access general information about you (e.g. geographical location, sex, and age).

How I protect your information

My website is scanned on a regular basis for security holes and unknown vulnerabilities. This is to make sure your visit to my site is as safe as possible. I do not have any website administrators; I am the only person who has access to and can edit your information.

In the unlikely event that a data breach occurs, I will of course let you know as soon as I am made aware of it. I want to assure you that I am doing everything in my power to ensure that there is nothing to worry about in continuing to read, leave comments and subscribe to Notebooks and Glasses | Chronic Pain Blog.

Further information

I am currently a member of two affiliation schemes, and more details can be found in my Disclosure page.

I hope you have found this brief policy useful. Please note that I am not a legal expert and have not taken any legal advice outside of reading and acting on the guidelines that are generally found on the Internet. WordPress (the blogging platform I use) are also working to ensure that the platform is GDPR compliant.
