I’m always a bit reluctant to share my goals with you, even though I’ve written several goal posts before. However, everything I’ve read suggests that when you openly tell someone (or your audience) what you plan to do, you’re more likely to stick to your goals and achieve them. So, here’s a short post on some of my own personal and blog goals and plans for 2020.
Everyone has goals for different reasons. For me personally, it’s about self-development, making sure I’m the best version of me that I can be, and having something to focus on and strive towards. I like a challenge and to push myself where I can, and goals are a good way of doing that. My chronic pain limits me to some extent, but having a purpose and something to aim towards can really make a difference, and it can give a huge sense of achievement once we’ve accomplished our goals.
One of my main goals for this year is to be organised. In general, I think I’m a very organised person anyway. I love being organised, so this always helps. But I want to be more organised and plan things even better. So, in line with this, my goals are split into different categories. I haven’t shared every single one of my goals – I do have quite a lot – but I’ve shared one from each category.
De-clutter the whole house
This is a huge task, but I want to de-clutter every room in my house and my garage. This will also be quite hard for me as I don’t like to throw stuff away; I tend to hold on to stuff “just in case I need it”. My plan here is to have a system and store stuff in boxes so it is easily accessible and tidy.
I will focus on one room at a time, and one area of each room at a time – like a draw, or cupboard, or shelf. I soon get bored or very often can’t make a decision about keeping something or throwing it away, so progress will be slow, but progress is progress.
At least one discomfort zone challenge each week
I recently read the book The Discomfort Zone: How to Get What You Want by Living Fearlessly and am trying to push myself in to my discomfort zone at least once a week.
Sometimes this is a really small task, but for me it will be outside my comfort zone, and that is what matters.
Already I’ve done several discomfort zone challenges, including going on a hike and map reading on my own. I don’t have very good navigation skills, so this was a huge success for me – I didn’t get lost once!
Eat my 5-a-day before I eat treats
I plan to eat my 5-a-day fruit and veg before I have any treats. My theory is that I will fill up on the good stuff and therefore eat less of the bad stuff. I’m using the app Eat Five to help keep track on my fruit and vegetables.
One hike a month
I’m really into my walking and hiking at the moment. I love walking in general and do at least 30 minutes every day, but I absolutely love getting in to the countryside and in to nature as it really boosts my wellbeing. So, I’m planning on doing at least one hike a month, either with friends or on my own.
I’ve already done one hike which I shared on my Instagram page.
I’ve also signed up to the #walk1000miles challenge that Country Walking magazine do each year.

Write my blog in different places
This will be another tough one for me as I need appropriate seating and I can’t sit for long due to my pain. However, I plan to do my blog work in different places to help ensure I am as creative as possible by changing my environment.
I may blog in the car (on my cushion), in a pub (at a stand up table), in a cafe, in my garden; anywhere that gives me pleasure, helps change my thoughts, and is enjoyable at the same time.
