We are all told that we should drink more water. However, this can be a lot easier said than done. If you often find that you get to mid-afternoon and you’ve barely consumed half a glass of water, you need to make some changes that will ensure you are more hydrated throughout the day.
Luckily, that’s where this blog post comes in. It is a collaboration, for which for which I received a small payment. Read on to discover how you can make sure you drink more water every day.
It may surprise you that water could help reduce some chronic pain. Dehydration – the lack of water – can cause and contribute to health issues, such as arthritis, gout, headaches, constipation, back pain, and kidney problems. Drinking more water and staying hydrated can also help reduce joint pain in several ways:
- Water keeps joints well lubricated.
- Water helps produce synovial fluid in between the joints which helps reduce friction and increases movement.
- Water encourages new cells to grow in cartilage tissues.
- Water carries nutrients to the joints.
How much water should you drink?
This is hard to say as it will depend on different factors such as how hot the weather is, your environment and where you live, whether you’re male or female, how active you are, and whether you have any health conditions.
There’s different opinions out there, from 6-8 glasses of water to 2 litres per day. Speak to a doctor or health professional to find out the right amounts you should be aiming for. I generally aim to drink around 1.6 litres a day.
Simple things you can do to help drink more water
Carry a bottle of water with you
If you carry a bottle of water with you throughout the day, you are going to be much more inclined to drink from it instinctively, i.e. without giving it another thought. This will ensure that you consume a much greater amount of water throughout the day meaning you’re much more likely to hit your target.
Set reminders on your phone
There are a number of different apps that have been developed to help us all drink more water. Why not make the most of one of these? You could even simply set an alarm on your phone so that it reminds you at several points throughout the day to have a glass of water. Top tip – change the label of the alarm so you know what it is for.
Have a glass of water before every meal
There are a number of benefits associated with doing this. You can read this article for more information on why it is important to drink more water in general. By having a drink before each meal, you ensure that you are getting at least three glasses of water per day. This will help you to reach your goal with greater ease. Not only this but you’re going to help fill yourself up a bit before you eat, and this can help to ensure that you don’t overeat at dinner time.
Make your water more exciting
If you do not drink as much water as you should because you get bored of it, why not spice things up a little bit? You could add some fruit to your bottle of water overnight, enabling the flavor to infuse into the water. From lemon and lime to strawberries; there are lots of delicious fruits you can add to your water to make it taste better. Simply adding some cordial can make it easier to drink if you struggle to drink plain water like me.
Invest in a filtration tap
Last but not least, another reason why a lot of people do not drink water as much as they should is that they do not like the taste of water as it comes out of the tap. If this sounds familiar, investing in a filtration tap can make all of the difference. This can ensure that the water you drink is as pure as possible, giving it an amazing taste!
So there you have it: some of the steps that you can take to make sure you drink more water on a daily basis. We all know how important it is to drink around eight glasses of water per day. With the tips that have been provided above, you should be able to hit your daily target much easier.
