This is my weekly post where I share what I have been grateful for over the last week.?Being grateful and focusing on the positives of our days and week can lead to better wellbeing, happiness, and can really change our outlook on things.?It can also help with worry and anxiety.
I was inspired to do a weekly gratitude blog post after reading the #FridayFive posts on Milly’s Guide. Mental Health Advocate, Lauren Ephithite, has a Facebook group where we are encouraged to share the five things we are grateful for each week.
When you have chronic pain it is extremely important to focus on the positives and the things you are grateful for. Dwelling on the negatives and the things you can?t control can add to your anxiety and stress, and make it even harder to manage your pain. Being grateful is a simple way to try to change your mindset and it soon becomes a habit the more you do it.
In my?book review of Betsy Craig’s book Unstoppable: A recipe for success in life and business.?One of Betsy?s principles is gratitude and this?is summed up extremely well in the quote below:
?Coming from a space of gratitude can change your perspective and outlook on life. It causes you to open your eyes and notice the good things happening all around you. It doesn?t mean there won?t be challenges, but they are no longer the focus. Your attention falls on what you do have instead of what you don?t.?
Here are 5 of the things I am grateful for this week:
1. I haven’t been as organised with my blog over the last few weeks due to being incredibly tired, busy weekends, and working more hours in my day job. I don’t like feeling dis-organised, but sometimes it’s part and parcel of being a blogger. I was half expecting not to get last Sunday’s blog post finished on time, but I got up early Saturday morning and worked solid for 3 hours to get it done, along with some other blog work that I was behind on. Only I set my deadlines so it wasn’t essential to post it, but it felt good getting it done and finally scheduled on time.
2. We went for a family walk to a new local sandwich shop and had a coffee outside. My partner (as thoughtful as always) bought me a bag of sweets too. A huge bag of pick ‘n’ mix sweets for 50p!
3.?On the way out of my local supermarket I spotted a charity stall and a chap raising money for Help for Heroes. I always try and donate money when I can, but this time I hardly had any change on me. I popped what little I had – about 29p – in to the money bucket and said to the chap “I’m sorry it’s not much” and he immediately replied with the most grateful thank you I think I’ve ever heard. I was grateful that he was grateful, despite being a little embarrassed at my small donation. Every little really does help with these charities though.

4.?One of my best friends cooked me an amazing prawn and smoked salmon pasta dish for lunch and it was delicious. It was cooked using gluten free pasta, which I’ve never had before. I’ll definitely be using it in future though as I didn’t get the usual bloated feeling I normally get after eating pasta.
5.?Now I’m not a fan of the tv programme University Challenge, but my dad loves it and he’s watched it for years. Admittedly I always listen to the questions and see if I can answer them. I’m lucky if I get one question right in the whole show. But this week I got two right – I was made up!
