If you constantly suffer from headaches then you will know how bad they can be. You may feel as though at times, they stop you from doing just about everything and they may even interfere with your day to day life as well. Relaxing After Stress

If you put in 10-hour days constantly, then you may feel fine but when the weekend comes along, you may have a horrible migraine that you just can’t get rid of. This can be frustrating to say the least, and it can also really interfere with your social life as well. The reason why this happens is because as the tension of the week dies down, your stress hormones will drop and this can cause you to experience a rapid release of neurotransmitters. These then send out messages, telling the blood vessels to contract and this can lead to a headache. There are ways for you to try and stop things like this from happening. The first thing that you need to do is avoid sleeping too much at the weekend. You can also relax by going to a yoga class, as this will de-stress your body and mind gradually.

Anger

It is a known fact that when you are angry, the muscles in the back of your neck and your scalp will tense up. This will cause a tight sensation around the back of your head and it can then become a tension headache. If you want to fix this then you need to first manage your anger. Try and take some deep breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth. When you do this, you should then find that your headache dies down and that you feel much more relaxed as a result. Your headaches may also be due to depression, so it’s worth considering this as well.

Poor Posture

Poor posture can cause you to experience a ton of tension in your back, neck and even your shoulders. All of this can lead to tension headaches as well, not to mention that you may get pain that starts at the base of the skull. It is possible for this to radiate to the face, and the forehead too. To fix this, you need to change your posture. Always make sure that you do not sit or even stand for long periods of time. Sit up where possible, and support your lower back. If possible, you should even use a headset over a desktop phone. This will stop you from holding the handset between your head and shoulder, and it will also provide you with a ton of tension relief.

Perfume and Strong Smells

If the mere thought of household chores is enough to give you a headache then you could be onto something. Household cleaners and even perfumes can easily trigger headaches. This is especially the case if you use air fresheners that are fragranced, as this can contain chemicals that can cause you to experience severe headaches. If you are really prone to headaches and if they tend to be brought on by smells, then it helps to avoid using perfume that is really strong. You also need to be careful of the shampoos and conditioners you use as well. If you can, installing a fan at work can help too as this will help to disperse some of the smells around the office.

Bad Weather

Believe it or not, bad weather can really cause you to experience headaches. This could be due to the rising temperature and it can also be due to the pressure changes that accompany storms. When the pressure and temperature changes, this irritates the nerves and this can also cause you to experience a headache. Bright Lights

Bright lights and even glare can cause you to experience severe headaches. This is because bright and even flickering lights can really increase the amount of certain chemicals in the brain. You also need to try and reduce the light intensity in the room as well. This can be done by reducing the brightness of your laptop and you can even look into polarised lenses. Food Triggers

If you have the same sandwich every day at work, then there is a high chance that this could be causing the problems that you are experiencing. Sure, it might be a tasty lunch but if it contains cheese then it is probably the cause of your headaches. You also need to watch out for aged cheese such as brie and stilton. Diet fizzy drinks can also be to blame, along with processed meats. If you want to stop your migraines from coming back then you need to keep a trigger diary.  When you do this, you need to note the time, date and exact foods that you ate.

Of course, if you are finding it hard to know which food is causing your migraines then you need to try and chat with your GP to see if they can give you any advice. They can also help you to know if there is anything that you can do to try and manage the pain that comes with your headaches as well, so this is very important for you to keep in consideration. If your migraine keeps on coming back even after having some specialist pain relief then your GP may need to look into some other treatment options.
