Stress and anxiety make my pain worse. I don’t like taking medication, and often find that even the natural products on the market can cause tiredness, which is the last thing I want. I decided to give an essential oil diffuser a try. I’d heard some good feedback about them, and after my sister-in-law got one for Christmas, I’ve been toying with the idea to get one for myself ever since. I’m a fan of the Tisserand brand so decided to get the Tisserand Aromatherapy Aroma Spa Diffuser.

I am not affiliated with Tisserand UK. This is an independent review of their product giving my views and opinions.

Why did I choose this product

I am very safety conscious so I don’t like candles. This stems from having two dogs in the house, and from all the horror house fire stories that you hear from candles being left unattended. I wanted something that was safe, and that if I left on, it would be ok. Lighting and blowing out a candle would be very impractical considering all the amount of moving and walking I have to do to manage my pain.

I’ve always known about essential oils, but I’m certainly not an expert, so I wanted something easy to use. What I particularly liked about the Tisserand brand was their ready available essential oil blends that are designed to be used with this diffuser. These are aimed to achieve specific goals: de-stress, improve sleep, etc.

Cost was also factor, as I didn’t want to pay a lot for it. This diffuser is less than £20. At the time I bought mine, it was about £18.99 on Amazon.

What do I like about this diffuser

It looks smart and modern. I use it on my office desk, but it wouldn’t look too out of place in a lounge or kitchen.

Admittedly, I didn’t check the size of the product before I ordered it. I was pleasantly surprised at how small it was when it arrived as I was a little concerned it would take up a lot of room on my desk.

The instructions are simple and easy to follow. My diffuser was set up and running in just a few minutes. And once you switch it on, the mist appears straight away – you don’t have to wait for it to heat up.

I love the colours, and the fact that you can have the light on without the mist. Different colours have different impacts on mood and energy levels, and I love the variety of colours available on this product. You can set it to one colour, or have it flicking through them all. I’m looking forward to using my diffuser in autumn and winter while I’m busy working and it’s dark outside and the light will really stand out.

I’ve only tried two essential oil products so far – Tisserand Total De-Stress Diffuser Oil and Tisserand Lemongrass Organic Essential Oil. They both smell amazing. The lemongrass oil odour has a real clean and fresh smell to it, and the de-stress oil instantly makes you feel more calm and relaxed.

the essential oils in their boxes

I didn’t actually realise that the oil disappears even though there is water left in the diffuser. I thought I had to use all the water first, and then top it up and add some more drops of oil. But a friend who’s really in to essential oils and aromatherapy told me that after a few sessions there won’t be any oil left and I just need to top it up. The water lasted a lot longer than I thought, and allowed me to alternate between my two oils depending on how I was feeling.

The device is very quiet; the slight noise you can hear is actually quite relaxing.

What I would change about this product

One thing I wish it had was an on-off button for the divide itself, separate to the mist/light on-off buttons. I always turn the plug off at the socket, but it would be easier to be able to turn the device on and off. It would be quicker too, as when I am using both the light and the mist, you have to turn each ones off separately. It’s no big deal really, just a little thing that could improve a future model.

Conclusion

I love this product and I use it most days when working at my desk. I can’t say for sure if by itself it is reducing my pain, but I certainly feel more relaxed and calmer when things get a little stressful and this is hopefully having a positive effect. My view with managing anxiety and stress is that a lot of little things make a difference, rather than one thing having an impact. Using a spa diffuser such as this one is one way of contributing to making things better. And it looks good too!
